Mohanlal has been in the news ever since he stepped down as the chairman of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). The actor took such a major decision amidst the eye-catching reports and findings submitted by the Hema committee on egregious cases of sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. And now, at a recent event, the senior actor broke his silence on the issue for the first time.

Mohanlal graced the launch ceremony of the Kerala Cricket League, making his first public appearance after stepping down as the president of the AMMA. Dressed in a formal suit, the actor took part in the opening ceremony of the event, surrounded by eminent guests and other members.

Moreover, the actor, during his speech at the event, broke his silence on the pressing concerns about the Malayalam film industry. He also spoke about the cases of violence and sexual exploitation against women that have happened to them in the industry. Mohanlal admitted that the entire Malayalam film community was responsible for this.

As Mathrubhumi said, Mohanlal said, “If you ask why we all quit our posts (AMMA), the answer is that the entire Malayalam film industry is responsible. The report has not just highlighted one problem but several. What exactly they are, you know better than I.”

Towards the end of his response, Mohanlal also addressed speculations surrounding his decision to step down as president of AMMA along with several other members. The actor assured that it was a unanimous decision, taken after seeking legal advice only.

Mohanlal also noted that while he warmly welcomes the Hema committee and its findings, the film industry as a whole and AMMA as a group should not be targeted as they are the only source of income for many.
