Three convicted in Bora Bora Spa case for offering sexual services on social media

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reported that three people have been convicted in the Bora Bora spa case of promoting, facilitating or assisting prostitution.

They are Hugo Leonel Ajcuc Tacatic, Nancy Paola Macario de León and Patricia Lucero Morales, who were each sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Q50,000.

As additional penalties, the judge ordered the registration of the convicted persons in the National Registry of Sex Offenders, the confiscation of the seized money and the destruction of the material evidence.

As a form of dignified compensation, the court ordered rehabilitation measures consisting of psychological therapy for the three convicted men and the victims found at the scene of exploitation. The therapy will be provided through the Victims’ Institute.

He also ordered them to conduct campaigns to prevent the crime of promoting, facilitating or encouraging prostitution.

The MP added that the convicted men were part of a criminal organisation as collaborators that operated businesses that resembled massage centres, beauty salons, hotels, restaurants or bars, called Bora Bora Spa in zone 14 and Hotel Bar and Restaurant El Rey in zone 15.

He added that the criminal structure was dismantled on November 29, 2023.

The Public Prosecution Service’s investigation revealed that the companies were registered under the guise of legality and that the true nature of their function, namely offering sexual services through catalogues on social networks, was concealed.

The MP added that the Unit Against Criminal Structures and Special Cases of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Against Human Trafficking had presented the evidence so that the sentence could be imposed by the Criminal Sentencing Court with jurisdiction over human trafficking crimes of the Guatemala Department.
