7 Things to Do in Western New York This Weekend: August 30

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — If you’re looking for something to do this weekend as summer officially comes to an end and the kids prepare to go back to school next week, here are 7 things to do in WNY!

National Buffalo Wing Festival
The National Buffalo Wing Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday at Highmark Stadium. It runs from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The festival features more than 100 types of wings, the Wing It On! US Chicken Wing Eating Championship, the Buffalo Buffet Bowl for professional eaters from Major League Eating, the Hot Wing Eating or Buffalo Wing Eating contest for amateurs, a wading for wings in a kiddie pool filled with blue cheese, a baby wing costume contest, cooking contests, and live music. This year, the festival has a new format. Organizers said that visitors will still have access to the field, but all the action and food will be held on the main concourse inside the stadium. Wings Over Batavia Air Show
The Wings Over Batavia Air Show will take place Saturday and Sunday at Batavia Airport. Gates open at 2:00 PM and flying begins around 5:00 PM. Flying continues into dusk, ending at 9:00 PM. “The 2024 Wings Over Batavia Air Show will feature modern military aircraft, warbirds, and world champions in the sport of aerobatics! That’s not all! Every evening as the sun sets, airshow fans will be treated to an energetic night show featuring choreographed fireworks with aerobatic performances,” the website states. Third Annual Mafia Boat Parade
The third annual Mafia Boat Parade will take place on Sunday, with boats departing Buffalo’s Inner Harbor at 1:00 p.m. A viewing party with vendors will be held at Canalside from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m. This year’s event is to raise money for the Firefighter Arno Memorial Fund. Third Annual Buffalo Jazz Festival
The third annual Buffalo Jazz Festival will take place on Sunday from 12:30 to 8 p.m. on the Richardson-Olmsted Campus. “Set against the backdrop of the historic Richardson Hotel Buffalo and the picturesque South Lawn, this year’s free festival promises to be an unforgettable day of music, community and cultural celebration. The event has grown into an electrifying gathering, bringing together people from all walks of life to enjoy the sounds of spectacular jazz while basking in the glow of one of Buffalo’s most iconic landmarks,” according to a press release. Buffalo German Party
Buffalo German Fest takes place Friday and Saturday at Cheektowaga Town Park. It runs from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. “Where would you rather be than at Cheektowaga Town Park to eat and drink authentic German beer and food, listen to authentic bands, learn traditional dances, participate in contests and games, and party all weekend with nearly 2,000 of your friends and family,” the website states. Olcott Beach Car Show
The Olcott Beach Car Show will be held Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Krull Park in Olcott. There will be over 1,000 show cars, prizes, dashboard plaques, a raffle, 50/50, vendors and more. More information can be found here.

Watermelon party
Watermelon Fest takes place Saturday and Sunday at Greg’s U-Pick Farm on Lapp Road in Clarence Center. It runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sunday. There will be a kids’ activity farm, hayride to the watermelon patch, U-Pick watermelon, fun family activities in the “Back 40”, watermelon contests, and watermelon snacks.
