Sajith Premadasa vows to defeat rice milling mafia, support farmers with loan waivers and modernization

COLOMBO (News 1) – Samagi Jana Balawegaya presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa has promised to do everything possible to support the farming community under his rule.

He stressed that farmers are not a burden but an asset to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

A meeting of the presidential candidate of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya Sajith Premadasa was held in Medawachchiya.

The meeting was attended by members of parliament from the SJB and affiliated parties.

SJB presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa criticised the disparity between the low prices farmers get for their Samba, Nadu, Keeri Samba and Kekulu rice and the higher prices consumers pay.

He then accused the rice processing industry of exploiting farmers and vowed to dismantle the “rice processing mafia” by September 21.

Premadasa promised to address the farmers’ problems by waiving their farm loans and providing permanent solutions to their challenges.

He wondered why the current government is waiving loans to wealthy individuals but not to hardworking farmers.

The SJB presidential candidate promised to modernize agriculture with online services and develop the country into an export-driven economy. The goal is to create a fair market for farmers’ products.
