Mammootty backs recommendations on harassment allegations in Mollywood

What’s the story?

Malayalam superstar Mammootty has expressed his support for the recommendations of the Justice Hema Committee, which investigated allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation in the Malayalam film industry.

The actor shared his thoughts on social media on Sunday, saying he “warmly welcomes and supports” the committee’s suggestions.

He also explained why he had not commented on the matter before.

‘Let the police conduct an honest investigation’

In his post, Mammootty wrote: “I wholeheartedly welcome and support the recommendations and solutions in the Hema Commission report. It is time for all associations in the film industry to come together and implement them.”

He added: “Police investigations are in full swing on the complaints that have been filed now. The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is with the court. Let the police conduct a fair investigation. Let the court decide the sentences.”

‘No superpowers in cinema’

Mammootty further stated, “There is no ‘powerhouse’ in cinema. The practical recommendations of the Hema committee report have to be implemented if there are legal hurdles. Ultimately, cinema has to survive.”

Mammootty explained the delay in his response by saying that he felt that the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and its leadership should be the first to respond.

“I believe that as a member I should only give my opinion after there have been reactions. That is why I waited so long.”

Hema Commission Report Reveals Dark Side of Mollywood

The Justice Hema Commission report, made public earlier this month, revealed shocking stories of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse of women in the Malayalam film industry.

The 235-page document, which omits the names of witnesses and accused, says the entire industry is controlled by a small group of male producers, directors and actors who wield significant influence over its operations.

Several big names face action after report is published

Following the publication of the report, several prominent figures from the Malayalam film industry, including actors Jayasurya and Mukesh, have taken legal action.

Superstar Mohanlal also resigned as chairman of AMMA.

The report’s revelations have sent shockwaves through the sector and led to widespread discussions about the need for systemic change and accountability.
