THE MOHICAN (2024) Venice 2024

Joseph, a goatherd in Corsica, refuses to sell his land to the mafia. They think he is just being cunning and will eventually sell. He has no intention of doing so. When he kills one of the men who is supposed to intimidate him, he is forced to flee. While the mafia tries to track down Joseph so they can force him to take revenge and sign over his land to them, his daughter refuses to give in and spreads Joseph’s story.

Not what you expect from a thriller, comes closer to reality than almost any other similar story. This is not a film full of big action scenes, but small tense encounters that have weight because we are dealing with real people. Even the bad guys have a sense of reality. It is a film that you feel in your stomach.

Beautifully shot, with a score that drives the action forward. THE MOHICAN is a film that grabs you and keeps you watching until the end. More importantly, it’s a film that makes you wonder where events go after the fade-out. Yes, there is an ending, but you still want to know what happens to the characters next.

While this is a little gem of a film, I don’t want to overstate it. As I said above, this isn’t full of big action scenes. Instead, this is a character-driven film. If you want a super small thriller, THE MOHICAN is a must-see.
