Police confirm death of most wanted Kano robbery leader

The Kano State Police have confirmed the death of one of the most wanted phone thieves in the state and an armed robbery boss, Abba Bala, also known as Burakita. They arrested him with life-threatening injuries he sustained during gang clashes.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, said Burakita of Dorayi Karama area and another gang led by Halifa, also known as Duguja, of Dorayi Gidan Shanu area of ​​Kano, were caught robbing innocent citizens and destroying their properties including cars, tricycles and motorcycles.

When the police chief received the report, he sent a team of officers and ordered them to cordon off the area and arrest the suspects.

CSP Kiyawa said: “Therefore, the team swung into action and arrested Abba Bala Burakita, one of the gang leaders who was on the Command’s wanted list for crimes related to violence. The suspect was arrested with life-threatening injuries he sustained during a confrontation with rival Daba groups.”

Two other suspects, Abubakar Idris, 28, and Najibullah Yahaya, 21, both from Dorayi Quarters, Kano, were also arrested. Burakita was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he died during treatment.

The police spokesperson further said raids were conducted on some criminal hideouts in Wudil and Takai areas, leading to the arrest of three suspected drug dealers: Sabo Jafaru, 57; Babangida Sabo, 30, both from Kanyar Ute, Wudil LGA; and Sabo Ali, 50, from Kofar Yamma, Takai LGA, Kano.

“During a house search, 200 Exol tablets, 12 sachets of tramadol tablets, two sachets of diazepam and six D-5 tablets were found. The suspects have confessed and the case is being investigated,” he said.
