Months pass but no action against offenders; police postpone action under new criminal laws

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The new penal laws came into effect in the country on July 1 this year. According to the law, the police have 14 days to investigate the case and register an FIR once someone lodges a complaint at a police station. However, this is a slow process in Bhopal, especially in cases of fraud.

Recently, a resident of Chhola became a victim of fraud, where a man residing in Panchkula (Haryana) offered to sell him goods worth Rs 3.5 lakh. After the victim Gyanesh Rajput gave money to the seller, the latter stopped taking calls. Rajput had filed a complaint with the police in the first week of August. However, the police have not registered an FIR in the case till date. In July last week, a man who was cheated in the name of a job in Misrod, filed a complaint with the police station. When the police did not take any action, he took legal action. The court directed the Misrod police to register an FIR against the accused. Only after the court’s order, the police registered an FIR.

Similar incidents were recently reported from Shahjahanabad, rural Bhopal, where the sarpanchs forged documents to acquire land illegally. After a long time, an FIR was registered against them by the police.

DCPs are informed: CP

When contacted, Bhopal police chief Harinarayan Chari Mishra said he would direct the deputy police chiefs of all four zones in the city to monitor the number of complaints received and take action on them.
