Destroy Lonely & Lil Uzi Vert Take You To Another Planet With “LOVE HURTS”

Lil Uzi Vert has been building a relationship with Opium signees like Destroy Lonely as of late. Ken Carson was the most recent name to get the chance, as they collaborated on A big chaos last year with “Like This.” That record also featured Destroy Lonely, though, and we can perhaps point to that as the jumping-off point for him now working with Uzi on “LOVE HURTS.” It’s one of two team-ups on the Atlanta, Georgia native’s sophomore album LOVE LAST FOREVER.

The tracklist was topped only by “LUV 4 YA,” and that was only out two months before the LP’s August 30th release. Despite its fairly minimal rollout, this project was eagerly anticipated by fans of Destroy Lonely and Opium. Now that it’s here, “LOVE HURTS” seems to be one of those records that listeners will find themselves revisiting often. We say that because, as with most emo/rage/trap rap songs, the vibe is perhaps the biggest selling point. “LOVE HURTS” delivers that and then some, as it sounds like it was conceived in outer space by higher life forms. You can thank 808 Mafia member Lil 88, as well as Yugen and Dylxn, for the twisted, epic scale of this track. The auto-tune can be a little overpowering at times, but Lonely and Uzi are a great match stylistically. Overall, it’s a solid woozy trap track, nothing more, nothing less.

I can close my eyes and I know that love hurts (Love hurts)
I can travel seven seas and I know that love hurts (Love hurts)
You try to spare my feelings by saying I fucked first (fucked)
Yes-yes-yes-yes-yes, yes-yes-yes-yes-yes (Yes)
My mother and father are not together, that’s love that hurts
You say you hate that I put drugs first (You say)
If it wasn’t for this Perkys, I’d be the first to go
