Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite and Angela Griffin in wild trailer for Channel 5’s The Wives

A year later, it seems that her widower Charlie (Jamie Bamber) is settling in and has a new girlfriend. To his horror, his family discovers that she looks like a younger ‘doppelganger’ of his first wife.

It’s fair to say that Jade (Katie Clarkson-Hill) doesn’t exactly love the Morgan family. The trailer (see above) shows an awkward moment where she makes an off-putting comment to Beth about “women your age,” for example.

The situation gets worse on the anniversary of Annabelle’s death, when Jade’s choice of clothing creates even more tension.

All these developments raise questions about the tragic incident, and even the women of the title begin to suspect that it may not have been an accident after all.

The synopsis gives a sneak peek: “As lies come to light and more evidence is collected, the women work together and against each other to unravel the mystery and bring the perpetrator to justice.

“But now that corrupt officials, drug cartels and career criminals are closer to home than ever imagined, the question is whether they have bitten off more than they can chew.”

Catriona Chandler as Sky, Jamie Bamber as Charlie, Jo Joyner as Beth, Ben Willbond as Frankie, Katie Clarkson-Hill as Jade, Tamzin Outhwaite as Sylvie, Jonathan Forbes as Sean and Angela Griffin as Natasha in The Wives are gathered on rocks, looking sadly out into the water.

The Wives cast also includes Ben Willbond (Ghosts) as Beth’s husband Frankie Morgan, Jonathan Forbes (Catastrophe) as Natasha’s husband Sean Morgan, Louis Boyer (Shadow and Bone) as local businessman Luca Vella and Ajay Chhabra (Phoenix Rise) as consulate employee Vinay Taneja.

The series was created by Helen Black, who previously worked on the prison drama Time. Her co-star Griffin described the series as “full of warmth, female friendship, humour, with a huge whodunnit at the centre”.

The Wives will be airing soon on Channel 5 and My5.
