Kevin and the tätowierte Vollzeitmutter is a two-piece heavy stoner rock formation from Switzerland, consisting of guitarist Olivier Corrodi and drummer Janick Sidler. From the beginning, they decided not to write songs and only improvise, live or in the studio. One take of each jam is all you get. Period. Take it or leave it. It’s a no-holds-barred approach that can be tricky if you’re not a well-oiled machine. Pitfalls abound. But KUDTV avoid them easily and fill them in with large slabs of concrete in the meantime.

After releasing a number of singles (all well over 10 minutes long) and a live concert recording, they recently released their first full-length studio album.Butter with the fish‘, meaning you have to finish things right away, without holding back. A very fitting title indeed. Because holding back is nowhere to be found in their book. The two heavy, ferocious tracks clock in at over 45 minutes of pure, menacing stoner rock debauchery, bordering on sludge. The catchy, lightning-fast baritone guitar riffs are repeated for as long as they can and switched up when necessary, with solos thrown in all over the place to make it an endless (pun intended) pleasure to listen to. And the drums? Well, they are pounded, hammered and tortured to death. So much so that you almost start to feel sorry for the kit. But the main reason this jam extravaganza never goes off the rails is the chemistry between the musicians. They know what they’re doing and move together in perfect harmony – as if two people become one the moment they plug in their instruments and start playing.

It’s an immersive, enchanting listen for fans who want a taste of something related to Undead Viking Mafia, Spiderlord or KUDTVSludge’s Swiss colleagues are also heavyweights, but without vocals and worked out in detail.
