Nicolas Winding Refn Talks About His Next Film –

Nicolas Winding Refn has made a career out of his signature and often enchanting style. Some would call it stubbornly superficial, others marvel at what can be read between the lines and soak up the atmosphere. In short, he is a man whose work tends to divide audiences.

After an eight-year absence from the film world, during which he mainly devoted his time to producing TV series, he is now planning a major comeback. Unfortunately, it would also be his last.

The project in question is Avenging Silence, which Refn has been talking about for years, and which will center on a European spy recruited to take down a Japanese mob boss. Something that in Refn’s hands will of course be both bloody, strange, and absolutely fucking awesome.

In an interview with Variety, Refn promises “will contain lots of glitter and lots of sex and violence” and that “I think it’s hard for me to escape my self-absorbed identity in creativity. So I’ll always be in it.”
