Parolee Blames Mexican Mafia (VIDEO) Part 2 of a Series

POUGHKEEPSIE – Joseph Gourd, 43, who was on parole, was recently sentenced to prison for crimes he committed during a series of crimes in New York and Vermont last August and September. His day of crimes in Dutchess and Putnam counties on September 1, 2023, included stealing an unmarked East Fishkill Police Department vehicle and crashing it on the Taconic State Parkway.

On August 28, Judge Edward McLoughlin of Dutchess County Court sentenced Joseph Gourd to 25 years to life for burglary, 15 years to life for criminal possession of stolen property, 25 years to life for criminal possession of a firearm, and 364 days for reckless endangerment. All of these sentences will be served concurrently.

Once that sentence is completed, Gourd will begin a new prison sentence of 15 years to life for possession of a police car in East Fishkill.

Gourd’s crimes sparked a major manhunt last year in Putnam and Dutchess counties.

When first questioned by state police on the day he was captured, he blamed a bear attack he had witnessed as the root cause of his crime spree. He then blamed the Mexican Mafia, telling detectives that the gang was going to kill him and his family as a result of Gourd starting a competing crystal meth lab. The murder claim can be seen in the video interview with Gourd by detectives above.
