Farmer from Madhya Pradesh tries to stop illegal mining on his land, which was mowed down by a tractor

BHOPAL: A 35-year-old farmer was allegedly crushed to death by a tractor. sand mining mafia when he tried to stop them as they drove through his paddy fields in Madhya Pradesh Singrauli late sunday.
In May this year, the sand mafia mowed down an ASI in Shahdol and last month, a tehsildar narrowly escaped a similar murder.
The victim, Indrapal Agariya, lived in Gannai village. On Monday night, locals protested outside the district hospital where his autopsy was being conducted. The policeman initially said it was an accident, but Indrapal’s family told them he had been brutally beaten before being thrown under the wheels of a sand-laden tractor. Villagers demanded that a murder case be registered.
“Indrapal had cultivated paddy on his farm near the river bank. Around 7.30 pm on Sunday night, two tractors laden with sand started passing through his farm. When he objected, the men first beat him and then mowed him down under one of the tractors,” Rajpal Prajapati, representative of Gannai sarpanch, told TOI. “It is murder, not an accident. We will end our protest only after we get a copy of the FIR,” he added.
Police said things will be clear in the autopsy report. “The farmer died after falling under the tractor. Now his family says he was beaten before he was mowed down. Two have been named and there are six anonymous suspects,” the SP said.
