Ektaa R Kapoor advocates for safe workplaces for women in the film industry

Producer Ektaa R Kapoor stressed that women would feel safe at work only if they were given equal opportunities and leadership roles. She was reacting to the Justice Hema Committee report that highlighted sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry.

During the trailer launch of her new production, The Buckingham Murders, Kapoor urged conscious efforts to create a safe work environment for women. “It is crucial to have women in top positions and for women to take the initiative,” she said, adding, “creating a safe environment requires women to lead professional environments.”

The Kerala film industry has been facing a major controversy following the report, with many actresses coming forward with allegations of harassment. Kapoor stressed the importance of female leadership and collaboration in producing films with significant female representation. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta echoed these sentiments and called on men to take responsibility for ensuring safety and equality in the workplace.
