MEC Rachoene says government is determined to eradicate construction mafia

Ernest Rachoene, Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, says government is determined to eradicate the so-called construction mafia from construction sites where public infrastructure projects are being implemented.

During an oversight visit to the Botshabelo Community Library in Lephalale today, Rachoene said the R15 million project was supposed to be handed over to the community but work was disrupted several times.

According to him, the ongoing disruptions are caused by small businesses seeking to take advantage of the economic opportunities.

Rachoene has called on contractors to work closely with communities, which he said should also happen if contractors promise to give back by employing local people.

He further urged communities to report any illegal activities they witness in their communities.
