Veterans who discussed their experiences with National Guard Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) on Monday called him a “habitual liar,” a “coward” and a “deserter.” Speaking to Megyn Kelly, Tom Behrends, Paul Herr, Tom Schilling and Rodney Tow focused their ire on Walz’s claims that he was unaware of his unit’s upcoming deployment to Iraq before taking early retirement.

The veterans accuse Walz of using his military service for personal gain and call him a “military impersonator.” They cite Walz’s consistent dishonesty and state, “He lies about everything. He lies about things that don’t make sense.”

Although Walz has claimed he didn’t know his unit was being sent to Iraq, the veterans say that’s not true. One says the Democrat personally told him the unit could “count on” him to be sent. They described Walz’s decision to retire — an option two of them could have taken but didn’t — as “morally indefensible.”

One of them, who was to take over Walz’s position after he left, said of the retirement: “Who does that? It was just unbelievable that a (Command Sergeant Major) would abandon his troops, 500 soldiers.”

“I don’t know how he can live with himself after doing this to his soldiers,” agreed another.

STOLEN COURAGE, STOLEN THUNDER.

Walz retired from the Minnesota National Guard as an E-8 Master Sergeant, not a Command Sergeant Major, because his sudden departure left him without completing his qualifications for the higher rank.

The veterans feared that Walz’s embellishments — he also claimed to have carried weapons “in time of war” during an anti-gun rights speech, despite never having deployed to a war zone — would undermine the credibility of other veterans.

“You take a piece of their thunder, try to capture it and bottle it for yourself, and use that for your own benefit,” they said.

Speaking about the fact that former President Donald J. Trump is not a veteran, they said, “President Donald Trump decided to fight in a different way, and you know what, at least he got shot by the enemy.”

“The enemy came closer and took action against a former president of this country and tried to kill him. He was wounded during the fight for the rights and constitution of this country.”
