‘Makes me sick of RAGE’

Richard Tice told GB News he is “sick with anger and rage” after the deaths of at least 12 migrants were confirmed.

They died when their boat sank while trying to cross the Channel.

The French coast guard confirmed the deaths after some 65 people were rescued off the coast of Cap Gris-Nez on Tuesday.

Speaking to Jacob Rees-Mogg, Tice took aim at “left-wingers” and groups like Care4Calais, who he says are helping migrants on their perilous journey.

“It’s absolutely horrible,” he said.

“The only way to stop the deaths is if you catch these people and bring them back.

“Do you know what makes me so sick with anger and rage? It’s the whining and the moaning from people like Care4Calais and the Refugee Council and do-gooders saying we need more legal routes.

“These left wing, luvvie lawyers continue to block what needs to be done to show compassion and stop the deaths.

“This is made worse by the fact that the men on these boats take away the life jackets, leaving women and children completely defenceless.”

GB News’ Jacob Rees-Mogg joined the debate to criticise the government, saying it was guilty of adopting “platitudes” rather than a real strategy to tackle the gangs that help migrants cross the Channel illegally.

Tice added: “What we are seeing is that the numbers are increasing. The gangs are far from being afraid of the Home Secretary.

“They say: ‘This is an opportunity, the deterrent effect is gone and the chance of asylum being granted has increased under this new government’.

“They’re cramming these disposable boats full of people.”

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called the incident “appalling and deeply tragic” and said “vital” efforts to dismantle “dangerous and criminal smuggling gangs” and improve border security “must continue apace”.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin described it as a “terrible shipwreck,” adding in a post on X, formerly Twitter: “The provisional death toll stands at 12, two missing and several injured.

“All government services are being mobilized to find the missing and care for the victims.”

Figures from the Ministry of the Interior show that 351 people made the journey on six boats on Monday, bringing the provisional total for 2024 to 21,403.
