The Worst Movie Plot – by Jim Stewartson

Every now and then you just have to take a step back and think, “This is really ridiculous.

If this were a movie pitch, it wouldn’t pass the Giggle Test. Trust me. I’ve seen many of them.

Nevertheless, we find ourselves in the most bizarre and dangerous real-life movie plot since the Civil War. Now, as then, we find ourselves in a clear existential conflict between the forces of fascism and slavery, and those who promote freedom — Good Guys vs. Bad Guys, if you will — with another fragile presidential election as the battleground, 160 years later.

The “Bad Guys,” or the forces that oppose the continued operation of the U.S. federal government as a functioning democracy, are very, very formidable. They include some of the wealthiest people in the world, including Elon Musk And the paypal mafiaa big one christofascist paramilitary death cult manipulated by retired general 3 star general Mike Flynnthe genocidal Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and the Supreme Court of the United States. An odd group of bedfellows, to say the least.

To make matters even weirder, the current frontman of the Bad Guys, Donald Trump, is a disintegrating criminal rapist who could be facing jail time in two weeks, and has already had an attempt on his own life. This of course creates an extremely volatile situation, which is the perfect scenario for escalation drama.

Now, are the Bad Guys conspiring in a dark room or on an encrypted Telegram channel somewhere? Of course not. But the alignment of their intentions, to decimate the Constitution of the United States and install a theocratic fascist state that is friendly to Vladimir Putin, is extremely clear. They are working together in the open. It is not hidden. Not at all. The basis storylinePun intended, that’s clear.

Part

But the “Good Guys” are powerful too. They include the executive branch of government, including the military, the clear majority of the American people, and a brilliant new leader in Kamala Harris, who appears poised to politics part of the election.

However, we are no longer in a political struggleWe are at war, even if it is largely non-kinetic, so far — and this war film hasn’t reached its peak yet. As I warned for monthsThe strategy for cheating in 2024 is crystal clear. The Bad Guys have already cast doubt on the upcoming election, continue to insist that the 2020 election — which was not close — was stolen, and have set the legal machinery in motion to challenge countless swing states based on fabricated claims of fraud and interference.

The conflict is inevitable. There is goes a war about this election. The movie won’t pause so we can get popcorn. And we don’t have the (full) script yet.

But we do get a say. We can change whether this movie gets a (different) sequel, or whether the Bad Guys get their way and this The last American movie.

As with all forms of entertainment, the crucial element in generating emotion and drama is time determination. If you get it wrong, your scene ends in a slam. If you get it right, you get a really exciting ending. We don’t want that. We want this movie to end in a not– plot twist — that nothing dramatic happens and we just calmly continue to the Harris Administration. Unfortunately, a very unlikely outcome.

Make America Normal Again

This week’s Democratic National Convention was the most energized I’ve felt as an American citizen since 2008, when a relatively young black man, a freshman senator from Illinois, inspired a nation and, incredibly, won the presidency. It felt like a transformative moment, because it was. But it was an Obama line that everyone remembers from a speech that…

The Bad Guys are doing everything they can to delay the film’s climax as long as possible. When Mike Flynn begged the Fifth to answer the question of whether he supports the peaceful transfer of power to the January 6 Committee, he was very clear about his intentions. Like his Bad Guy allies, he doesn’t want peace. He wants conflict. And he wants it to be violent.

Elon Musk, the occasional Richest Man, has completely shattered any foolish illusions that he isn’t fully on board with Team Bad Guys. His behavior over the past few days, including showing off a poorly rendered Kamala Harris in a “communist” outfit to his nearly 200 million “followers,” has been downright obscene. His family history of white supremacy and his own messianic narcissism are on stark, terrifying display. How he plans to further weaponize the former Twitter in the coming months can only be imagined, but we know there is no bottom.

Let’s break this down to the most basic movie trope. We’re on a train that represents America. There’s a ticking time bomb underneath us. There are three possible outcomes, depending on the timing of the movie’s climax.

  1. We defuse the bomb and live another day.

  2. We jump out of the train at the last minute. We are alive, but injured, and the train is badly damaged.

  3. We’re all going to explode.

The sooner we have the conflict, the less dangerous it is and the less dramatic it is. But most people, especially those in power, are conflict averseShe feeling that by postponing a fight, it is automatically better. But that is just cowardice and worse, it can be suicidal.

What we need is courage, from our elected representatives and our corporate press, to confront the conflict that we have. must have it now, not later.

The Supreme Court is the nuclear option that has already been takenUnless we prevent them from occupying the judge’s seat, stealing our votes and creating a serious constitutional crisis after the election, we are just waiting for that bomb to drop to zero. We have to neutralize it. Now.
