Phoenix Police 911 Dispatcher Arrested for Suspected Possession of Child Pornography

PHOENIX — A Phoenix Police Department 9-1-1 dispatcher has been arrested by Scottsdale police and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Court documents allege that Daniel Rojas, 20, knowingly used social media apps on multiple occasions to collect, request and distribute child pornography videos.

The searches were originally flagged by Instagram and sent to police.

At the time of his arrest, Rojas was already on leave from the Phoenix Police Department due to an internal investigation. During that investigation, Rojas allegedly made an inappropriate comment to a coworker about seeking “risque” photos of children.

Rojas is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a class II felony.

Rojas has since been fired from the Phoenix Police Department.

The department issued the following statement to ABC15:

“In April of this year, the Phoenix Police Department was made aware of possible criminal conduct by Daniel Rojas, a department employee assigned to our Communications Office. Internal reports were filed and a criminal investigation was initiated. In May, Rojas was interviewed as part of the criminal investigation and placed on administrative leave. In July, the Scottsdale Police Department contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that Rojas was under criminal investigation. Last Friday, the Scottsdale Police Department arrested and booked Rojas on multiple felony charges. The Phoenix Police Department’s criminal investigation is ongoing. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the Phoenix Police Department has terminated Rojas’ employment. The Phoenix Police Department takes these allegations seriously and is committed to a thorough and transparent investigative process.”
