After being arrested for bribery and thrown in jail (again) in the season finale of Tulsa King, Things weren’t looking good for Dwight Manfredi.

But the show must go on and the Season 2 trailer confirms that after Dwight has proven his innocence, he won’t be behind bars for long.

It looks like Dwight is returning to Tulsa after being released from prison and will find plenty of competition. In the trailer, Grillo and McDonough’s businessmen aren’t exactly friendly toward Stallone.

The trailer also seems to hint at the growing affection between Dwight and Margaret (Dana Delaney), a wealthy businesswoman and owner of Fennario’s horse ranch.

Tulsa King Season 2 Will Be A Test Of Loyalty For Tyson

Outside of Dwight’s main mission, Tyson will face some new tensions Tulsa King Season 2.

The loyalty of the young taxi driver, now the partner of Dwight’s mob boss Tyson (played by Jay Will), is tested in the new episodes.

Michael Beach, who plays Tyson’s father Mark in Tulsa King, told Screen Rant that “the battle between who Tyson will be” would be crucial for the new season:

“The battle of who Tyson is going to be is a big theme in Season 2. So the battle between Dwight’s character and Mark’s character and his son Tyson being right in the middle and which way is he going to go and why? And based on the events that have happened throughout the season, you start to see where Tyson is going to go and why.”

Tyson’s journey so far in Tulsa King has seen the young man go from an innocent cab driver to a criminal path that Dwight follows. This of course caused problems between Tyson and Mark, as his father valued honest hard work and disapproved of his son falling into criminal activities.

In Season 2, the battle over Tyson’s morality looks set to become a major focus, with the character’s two father figures fighting to steer him on their own paths.

Tulsa King Season 2 Has a New Showrunner

Tulsa King comes from the spirit of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, however Terence Winter (Promenade Empire) was in the showrunner’s chair for season 1 of the crime drama.

This has changed for season 2, with Winter leaving Tulsa King in February 2023 due to “creative differences”, according to Deadline. The outlet also noted that Winter left to focus on new projects and that he would remain an executive producer on the series.

During Winter’s absence, Deadline reported that Tulsa King did not fulfill the role of showrunner, while a similar, nontraditional, writers’ room model was used on Sheridan’s other series – including Yellowstone And Special Operations: Lioness.

However, in February 2024, Winter returned as lead writer and EP for the series, after his schedule was freed up due to the 2023 Writers’ Guild strike.

In addition to the return of Winter, Tulsa King hired Craig Zisk (Weeds) in a role as executive producer/director to oversee the new season.

This turbulent creative journey can yield varying results for the quality of Tulsa King Season 2.

While Winter, who helped make the series a success in Season 1, eventually returned to help write Season 2, it remains to be seen how the show’s messy behind-the-scenes politics will affect the new episodes.

Deadline also noted in its report that Tulsa King is now considered a comedy, which is supported by the appointment of Zisk, who has a comedy background.

This could mark quite a change in tone for the new season of Tulsa King – but it remains to be seen whether this new direction will be for good or for bad.

Tulsa King Season 2 premieres September 15 on Paramount+.
