Book Review: Deadly Little Sparrow (Mafia Bound #1) by KM Neuhold

AUTHOR: KM Neuhold

Is there such a thing as love at first sight in a fight?

I may be small and pretty, but what I lack in intimidation factor, I make up for in violence. Five years ago I swore that the biker gang responsible for my brother’s death would pay the price, and I’m finally ready to collect. God have mercy on the men who hurt my brother, because I don’t plan on it.

Accidentally breaking the nose of the deadliest man in town wasn’t my best move. Xaviaro Saviano, trigger man for the Moretti Crime Family… and now my own personal stalker. But if I have to go through him to deliver some well-deserved justice, so be it.

As strange as it may sound, Xaviaro seems to want to help me more than hurt me. I can’t let go of the man, no matter what I do. Threatening him feels like foreplay, tying him up only turns him on… I could play nice, but that’s never been my strong suit.

I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t growing on me, especially when he calls me his Deadly Little Sparrow from the knees down. I’ve never met a man who could handle me, let alone one who couldn’t stop me from begging for more.

Can love and revenge live in the same heart? I guess there’s only one way to find out…

JUDGEMENT:

I love a dark and gritty D/S story that feels outside the norm, and this one ticked all the boxes for me. On the one hand, you have Xaviaro, the enforcer for the Morertti crime family who is essentially married to the job for obvious reasons. And then there’s Sparrow, a man seeking revenge for the death of his brother at the hands of biker gang members.

Xaviaro’s job is to keep the city under control for Enzo Moretti, whether it’s collecting debts or solving problems. Sparrow crosses his path one night and quickly becomes an obsession, as it seems Sparrow is a perfect fit for Xaviaro.

Sparrow is a bit of a loose cannon, but Xavi wants to help him and sees the dominance in him that Xavi longs for. He quickly becomes someone Xavi trusts, something Xavi has never been able to find.

I loved these two together. Their dynamic wasn’t what you’d expect, as Xavi is the supposed dominant one given his profession. It never feels too over the top or hokey, and Sparrow fits into the family easily.

I flew through this story and didn’t want it to end. Luckily I already have book 2 ready because not only do I want to see these guys again, but the other characters seem to have similarly interesting stories. If you like dark mafia stories where the bad guys aren’t as bad as they make people believe with a touch of D/S, I highly recommend checking this series out.
