“Good Cantone, let’s continue now” –

“The Striano case will not be archived. We are not talking about a madman, but about a sieve-like Anti-Mafia Public Prosecutor’s Office, a state structure that, despite having very delicate functions in the fight against crime and terrorism, has become the protagonist of a dramatic event”, said Maurizio Gasparri, leader of the Forza Italia group in the Senate and member of the commission dealing with the “dossieraggi” investigation.

How will the bicameral committee of which he is a member behave in the face of all this?
“It has been dealt with, with a first round of hearings. Since there was an initiative from the judiciary at the time, we respected that. However, it is wrong to speak of inertia. Until we have a clear picture of the situation, we will continue.”

What surprised you?
“The fact that the GIP has rejected the request for the arrest of Striano and Laudati, filed by Cantone. We await with curiosity the decisions of the Court of Appeal, against which the Public Prosecutor of Umbria has appealed. September 23 will be a crucial date”.

Does this response have any implications for your business?
“The initiative of the judiciary is one thing, the work of the commission is another, as Colosimo clearly explained. The sending of documents by Cantone is a good thing. In my opinion, we are facing the most serious scandal of the post-war period.”

On what points can the new documents provide clarity?
“We must take into account the “culpa in vigilando”, that is, when a person in charge of a structure does not supervise. In newspapers, for example, there is the editor-in-chief, who is called that because he is responsible for what is published, even if he has not read it or was not present in the editorial office. He cannot say that I did not know”.

The question that was previously raised is the alleged incompatibility of De Raho with his position as Vice-President of the Commission.
“This role cannot be played by someone who was the national prosecutor when these episodes took place, or rather, by someone who, as the hearings showed, gave an evaluation judgment on Striano, which was supported by him. I do not want to jump to conclusions, nor to say that he agreed with him, but I want to understand what happened, whether and why he did not notice anything.”

He has been criticizing this conflict of interest for months, but no one has lifted a finger.
“A downright disgrace. Unfortunately, she belongs to a caste of untouchables who decide for themselves and for others. I find this behavior unpleasant and unacceptable.”

What do you expect from the Court of Appeal?
“Nothing sensational, other than confirmation of what I’ve been saying for months.”

Are there possible new accomplices?
“Some newspapers have served as mailboxes for some informants. There are ways and worlds to carry out investigations. It is one thing to follow a trail, to wear out the soles of your shoes, as Chiocchi did when he carried out the famous investigation in Monte Carlo. It is another to receive papers, more or less reliable. This is what we dispute, the newspaper “Il Domani” and that Trocchia that has been talked about a lot on TV in recent days. In this sense I consider him very lucky. Not everyone receives on the same day the news of an investigation that concerns you and at the same time the request for archiving”.
