Anambra Police Arrest Man Specializing in Smuggling Teenagers to Ghana

The Anambra Police Command on Thursday, September 5, announced that it had arrested a suspect for alleged involvement in the trafficking of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16 to neighbouring countries.

Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Police Chief Tochukwu Ikenga, said during a press conference that some of the victims were taken to Ghana by the suspect.

According to Ikenga, some victims who were smuggled to Ghana have returned safely to Nigeria.

He also said that a search is underway to arrest other gang members.

Ikenga also reported that the suspect was arrested after reports of missing teenagers increased in the state.

According to him, the police commissioner, Nnaghe Itam, has charged all operatives in the state to do everything possible to tackle the growing trend of human trafficking.

He said: “The suspect is currently being questioned by the police. This will help in rescuing other victims and tracking down other gang members.”
