North Charleston man charged with child abuse material

A North Charleston man has been arrested on suspicion of displaying child sexual abuse material, the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office said.

John Eric Gibbs, 61, is charged with three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and six counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Gibbs was arrested on Sept. 3, 2024.

Each offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Investigators accuse Gibbs of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The case will be prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service.
