Coalition demands full investigation into sponsorship of terrorism in Northwest

A coalition, Centre Against Banditry and Terrorism (CABT), has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged sponsorship of terrorism in the northwest of the country.

At a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the coalition’s Executive Director, Yakubu Dauda, criticised Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for failing to tackle terrorism and banditry in his state.

Dauda called on the governor and the state government to clear the air of alleged documents linking some big names in the state to financing terrorism.

He called on the relevant authorities, particularly the security agencies, to investigate and prosecute “all persons involved in insecurity in Zamfara State and the North-West”.

“Terrorism can only be stopped if we all come together to wage war against the sponsors of the terrorist gangs. We demand a full investigation into those behind the sponsorship of terrorism in the North West.

“We urge anti-corruption agencies to confirm the transactions in the document, freeze all accounts linked to the named beneficiaries and bring the recipients to justice for terrorist financing.”

The coalition has called on President Bola Tinubu to issue an executive order to accelerate the naming and prosecution of all persons involved in insecurity in Zamfara State and the North-West, to rid that part of Nigeria of terrorism.

According to DAILY POST, the Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, on Tuesday stormed Sokoto State following an intensified security crisis in the North-West, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements.
