Hello there,

The technology companies that have been in the news in recent years are, paradoxically, often seen as brave newcomers and established power brokers.

It makes for awkward moments when governments try to regulate companies that want to stay out of the fray. But once the regulation is up for discussion, they are quickly brought back down to earth.

It also makes some companies ripe for being seen as overnight successes, when in reality their rise was incredibly methodical. Nvidia flew under the radar for years. Founded in 1993, it has only recently become the envy of tech entrepreneurs and investors.

But that unique status also carries the weight of a benchmark for economic health.

It’s both a benefit and an unintended consequence of success, but make no mistake: these companies deserve attention because they impact all of us.

In short | An innovative water technology company has unveiled plans for a new air-water bottling centre in Dubai.

The company, A1RWATER, makes atmospheric water generators using patented technology that collects drinking water from atmospheric humidity. The company also boasts sustainable bottling techniques.

According to A1RWATER, the new centre, which will open later this year, will be able to produce more than 100,000 litres per day.

Why it’s important | The idea of atmospheric water generators isn’t exactly new, but the idea of implementing them on a large scale could be a game-changer for the Middle East. The region has long been vulnerable to water scarcity, a problem that could only be exacerbated by climate change.

If we take it a step further, and air-water devices are powered by renewable energy sources, it can have a positive impact on the environment. That helps people, creates jobs and is ultimately good for the planet.

This center could be the first step in a long journey of water innovation.

Quoted | “Our mission is to redefine how the world accesses this vital resource, from a single drop to entire cities… New water technology is all about scale. The facility is a significant milestone and a testament to our commitment. We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what is possible.”

Alex Guy, Founder and CEO of A1RWATER

Emirati entrepreneur Abdulrahman Al Shamsi has been championing innovative ways to produce local food since 1996. In an interview and farm tour with The National, He said the application of aquaculture in agriculture has helped triple crop yields while conserving water resources by 90 percent.

This is a signal: The ability for individuals and families to grow their own fruits and vegetables has long been a part of future visions of how the world could work. Yet not every climate is hospitable to turning such visions into reality. Aquaculture is a tool in the overall agricultural arsenal that could help many overcome the obstacles that farming in different climates presents. It may take some time, but you will certainly see more of this in the not-too-distant future.
