Midwest City woman has car stolen twice in 48 hours

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — A Midwest City woman is stunned after her car was stolen twice in 48 hours.

She lives at number 777 The Lodge and both times her car was stolen it was locked in the gated apartment complex.

“The Tuesday after Labor Day, I woke up in the morning to take my son to school and my car was gone,” said Jessica Gray, a tenant at The Lodge at 777.

Gray’s car was stolen in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Less than 12 hours later, her car was found abandoned in a park in Midwest City.

She thought the chaos was over, but less than 48 hours later it happened again.

“So, after that, I was good to go, I brought my vehicle back home,” Gray said. “Then one night it was fine. The next night my car was gone again.”

Gray lives in a gated apartment complex and doesn’t know how the thieves got in.

“There’s one spot where they’ve broken through the fence, and there’s a low point on the fence that they can probably jump over,” Gray said.

We spoke with Midwest City police, who declined an interview but did send us a statement that read, in part: “The vehicle was last seen the night before and the owner stated it was locked and the owner had the only key. At 1:30 a.m. it was captured on a Flock camera at E Reno and Sooner Rd.”

We also spoke with the apartment complex, who said they are working with police off-camera and have video footage of the suspects leaving the complex in Gray’s car.

They also said that this was the first time something like this had happened.

However, both the company and Gray believe it could be part of a TikTok trend, which sees videos posted explaining how to hack a Kia.

“There were multiple people in the car,” Gray said. “So that to me points to teenagers. My car smelled like marijuana, points to teenagers. There were also valuables in the vehicle that they didn’t steal. That also points to young adults or teenagers just taking my car.”

Gray says the complex told her they are going to repair the fence in the back and that they will also get a free parking space in the garage for a month.

Gray just hopes that she gets her car back in one piece and that this doesn’t happen again.

“I rely on my transportation to take my son to school, to pick him up every morning,” Gray said. “So, it really put a damper on it because if I don’t get my vehicle back this time, it’s going to be a while before I can get another vehicle.”

Midwest City Police ask that you call them if you encounter the vehicle.
