AMLO’s judicial reform scares off investors (opinion)

Mexico’s controversial judicial reform is scaring off investors, according to Bloomberg authors and contributors Andrea Navarro and Alex Vasquez.

Outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is once again shaking up Mexico’s political landscape as the country moves closer to implementing a controversial reform that would dramatically overhaul the country’s judiciary.

Foreign governments, a weakened opposition party and local and international companies operating in Mexico have opposed the proposed reform, warning of threats to democracy and even drug cartels infiltrating the courts. The Mexican peso remains one of the worst-performing currencies this year, partly because of Morena’s landslide victory and the proposed judicial overhaul.
