2 pounds of fentanyl washes up on Daytona Beach

When an unsuspecting beachgoer discovered more than two pounds of fentanyl washed up on Daytona Beach, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were forced to intervene.

Andrew Scharnweber, interim chief patrol agent for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Miami Sector, shared a photo of the massive plastic-wrapped brick of the deadly synthetic opioid in a post on X, noting that his agents had seized “over 2 pounds of fentanyl that washed up on the beach by a good Samaritan” who immediately contacted police after discovering the white powder.

He warned Americans to avoid suspicious packages because fentanyl is incredibly deadly, even through skin-to-skin contact. The dangerous synthetic opioid is up to 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine, and just a two-milligram dose, about the size of 5-7 grains of salt, can kill an average-sized adult — meaning the 2 pounds of fentanyl found on the beach is enough to kill approximately 450,000 people.

“Warning — Do not attempt to disturb or handle suspicious packages along the shoreline. Contact local authorities immediately,” Scharnweber wrote.

It is currently unclear where the massive amount of fentanyl came from or how it ended up in Daytona Beach.

This follows another recent fentanyl seizure in a multi-county drug trafficking investigation in Florida, with reports indicating that police have seized enough of the deadly synthetic opioid to kill three million people, according to Breitbart News. In this case, the fentanyl was discovered in various forms, including “bricks” like those found on Daytona Beach, along with thousands of pressed pills disguised as prescription opioids like oxycodone.

The dramatic increase in fentanyl entering the U.S. through the Biden-Harris administration’s wide-open border has pushed the number of fatal overdoses in 2023 above 112,000 deaths for the first time in U.S. history, regardless of age.

While much of the deadly drug is produced in Mexico, it has been confirmed that the materials used to manufacture the drug are being sent to Mexico by communist China. According to a recent report by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), China is subsidizing the “production and export” of the chemicals used to make fentanyl and other synthetic drugs.
