Tesco shoplifter screams ‘help me’ as five workers wrestle him inside supermarket

A suspected shoplifter was caught shouting “help me” as five Tesco staff wrestled him to safety in a supermarket.

The man reportedly tried to steal steak from the Tesco Express store in Wembley, less than five minutes away from the English football stadium.


The staff saw it and five employees ran to the man and tackled him.

Footage posted on social media shows the security guard and four colleagues dragging the man through the supermarket shelves as he calls for help.

The incident happened at around 7.25pm ​​on Wednesday. The Metropolitan Police confirmed no arrests had been made after officers attended the supermarket on Empire Way.

One of the Tesco workers can be heard shouting: “Call the police, call the police. Call the police” as the man is dragged through the aisles of the supermarket.

The man tries to hold on to things in the store to prevent himself from being dragged to the floor. The man then responds, “Ah help me, help me. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

The shopper who filmed the incident told The Mirror: “The man came and allegedly tried to steal a steak. Police arrived but immediately let him go.”

People took to social media to praise the work of the supermarket staff. One Facebook user: “The problem is that no one has to steal food. Just go to the food bank or the community fridge.” Another said: “Deserves it.”

A Met Police spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 7.25pm ​​on Wednesday 4 September after a man was arrested on suspicion of theft by staff from a shop in Empire Way, Wembley.

“Officers attended the scene. The stolen items were returned to the store and staff confirmed they did not wish to investigate the matter. The man was not arrested.”

A Tesco spokesman said that due to the police involvement, no comment could be made, but no arrests have been made.

This comes after retail chains in the UK reported that stores were buying stolen goods from professional shoplifters, who were committing thefts on behalf of criminal gangs to fund their addiction problems.

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) said its members reported “many” and “very blatant and direct” incidents of shopliftingwhere meat, cheese and alcohol are the targets.

Businesses are reporting that their items are being sold locally or through Facebook or WhatsApp groups after being stolen.

A spokesman for the National Police Chiefs’ Council said they are aware of shoplifters stealing from local shops with the intention of selling to other retailers and business owners, “often close to where the crime originally occurred”.
