WCC proposes reforms for safer workplace in Malayalam film industry

The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) on Saturday announced that it plans to publish a set of recommendations aimed at “rebuilding” the Malayalam film industry into an equal and safe workplace for all professionals.

In a Facebook post, the WCC expressed hope that industry members would unite in open solidarity to adopt a “cinema code of conduct.” The new recommendations are being drafted in light of the Justice K Hema Commission report, which highlighted the exploitation and mistreatment of women in the industry.

The Collective’s renewed efforts come after the Kerala government announced a seven-member special investigation team to probe allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors. The move follows the actress’s 2017 case and the subsequent Justice K Hema Committee report.
