Evacuations ordered in Highland as Line fire now 3,330 acres, no containment – ​​Orange County Register

An evacuation order was issued due to the fire at Highland, which had spread across more than 3,300 hectares and was out of control by Saturday morning, September 7.

Homes and buildings in Highland, from Calle Del Rio east to Highway 38 and Greenspot Road north into the hills, were evacuated, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said on X.

And the San Bernardino National Forest warned sky watchers Saturday morning about X. “Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can shut down aerial operations,” it said. “When drones disrupt firefighting efforts, wildfires can grow larger and cause more damage.”

The fire was first reported around 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, near Baseline Street and Aplin Street, and later spread to the San Bernardino National Forest, authorities said.

Containment is the percentage of the fire perimeter that authorities say the flames will not spread further due to natural barriers or the progress of firefighters.

Earlier, evacuation warnings had been issued for neighborhoods east of Church Street, north of Highland Avenue and neighborhoods east of Weaver Street and north of Greenspot Road to the Iron Bridge, the Cal Fire Department said.

According to Cal Fire, no homes or other structures were in immediate danger.

More than 250 firefighters were deployed to the fire on Friday.
