Solon calls on government to dismantle Quiboloy’s ‘Davao mafia’

MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker has called on the government to put an end to what he described as a “Davao mafia” that allegedly allowed fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy to hide out by reportedly building an underground facility.

Rolando Valeriano, the second district representative of Manila and head of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Metro Manila Development, said authorities must “eradicate” this “mafia-like” system in Davao City’s government and private offices.

“These underground facilities could not have been built without the actions of government agencies, private entities and individuals,” Valeriano said.

“There should be a thorough inventory of weapons, ammunition, explosives and dangerous chemicals in the possession of individuals in Davao City. All illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO) and fake BPOs in Davao City should be raided and dismantled,” he added.

On August 24, about 2,000 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) raided the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Compound in Buhangin district of Davao City to execute arrest warrants for Quiboloy, who is wanted for child abuse and human trafficking.

In addition, two alleged victims of human trafficking were rescued from the compound in Davao City on August 25.

Davao police are continuously searching the KJC complex and are “more than certain” that Quiboloy is still inside.

Earlier, PNP had said that the entrance to the underground bunker of the KJC complex in Quiboloy will likely be found soon.

She added that the authorities’ ground radar detects “signs of life” in an underground area of ​​20-30 meters.
