Malaysia calls on world leaders to improve coordination to combat transnational crime

SHANGHAI, Sept 9 (Bernama) – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on world leaders to further improve coordination mechanisms between countries to more effectively combat transnational crime.

He said a strong coordination mechanism between countries, promoting closer cooperation between government agencies, law enforcement, civil society and private sector partners, is crucial in the fight against such crimes.

Ahmad Zahid added that these crimes are often committed by international syndicates, not isolated local organizations. Effective coordination ensures that all countries can address security threats more efficiently and in a more targeted manner.

“Tackling transnational crime requires more than national efforts… it requires strong international cooperation. Law enforcement agencies, governments and international organizations must share intelligence, strengthen legal frameworks and build capacity to effectively address these cross-border threats.

“Our response must be swift, coordinated and unified, and we cannot afford to work in isolation. We must invest in advanced technologies, enhance cross-border information sharing, and build strong partnerships to counter these criminal networks,” he said during his keynote speech at the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum Lianyungang (GPSCFL) 2024, in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, China, today.
