Malaysia calls on world leaders to improve coordination in fight against transnational crime

Malaysia has called on world leaders to further improve coordination mechanisms between countries to more effectively combat transnational crime.

In his keynote speech on Monday at the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum Lianyungang (GPSCFL) 2024 in Lianyungang city, China’s Jiangsu province, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said a strong coordination mechanism among countries, which fosters closer cooperation between government agencies, law enforcement, civil society and private sector partners, is crucial in the fight against such crimes, according to Bernama News Agency.

Ahmad Zahid added that these crimes are often committed by international syndicates and not by isolated local organizations. Effective coordination would ensure that all countries can address security threats more efficiently and accurately.

“Tackling transnational crime requires more than national efforts…it requires strong international cooperation. Law enforcement agencies, governments and international organizations must share intelligence, strengthen legal frameworks and build capacity to effectively address these cross-border threats,” he said.

“Our response must be swift, coordinated and united, and we cannot afford to work in isolation. We must invest in advanced technologies, improve cross-border information sharing and build strong partnerships to counter these criminal networks,” he added. (
