Police Minister Senzo Mchunu will this week represent South Africa at the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum in China, where international leaders are meeting to address key public security challenges.

The conference, with the theme: “Win-win Cooperation Under Major Changes: Building a Global Community of Common Public Security”, will be held from September 8 to 11, 2024 in Lianyungang City, China.

During his visit to China, Mchunu will have a bilateral meeting with Chinese Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong.

“The two leaders will address key issues, including the use of advanced technology in policing to enhance law enforcement capabilities. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in tackling transnational crime, cybercrime and developing innovative crime prevention strategies.

“The South African Police Service (SAPS) delegation accompanying the Minister will actively participate in 13 sub-forums discussing various aspects of public safety governance.

“These forums will cover a range of topics including cybersecurity, counter-terrorism and urban security, and provide the delegation with an opportunity to share experiences and gain insights from international colleagues,” the police said in a statement.

In addition to the conference, Minister Mchunu will visit the Public Safety and Security Technology Expo, which will showcase the latest developments in public safety technology.

The visit will enable the Minister to explore new technologies and innovations that can enhance the capacity of the SAPS to ensure public safety in South Africa. SAnews.gov.za
