In his speech, Trump promised that if re-elected, he would tackle gang violence, drug cartels and illegal immigrants accused of crimes, the report found.

Trump promised to implement tougher penalties for illegal immigrants who commit crimes, including a mandatory minimum of 20 years, the report said. He also said he had negotiated a deal with China for tougher penalties for fentanyl dealers, including the death penalty.

Trump closed the event by reaffirming his commitment to “supporting the blue crowd” and supporting law enforcement.

“It was refreshing to hear a leader in our country say he wants to defund our police departments,” FOP National Vice President Joe Gamaldi told the Charlotte Observer. “We’ve suffered through the defund-the-police movement and the worst war on cops we’ve seen in a generation.”

The FOP, the country’s largest police union, officially supported Trump earlier in the day.

“During his first term, President Trump made it clear that he supported law enforcement and border security,” said FOP National President Patrick Yoes. “If we want to maintain these lower crime rates, we need to re-elect Donald Trump.”
