Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples Affairs condemns inappropriate public display of children

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples Affairs and the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC) issued a statement saying they “unequivocally condemn the recent inappropriate public display of a sexual nature involving a woman and a child.”

The incident took place during the Carnival Road March on September 7.

After the video went viral, the incident has raised significant public concern as it shows a deeply disturbing disregard for the safety and well-being of minors and the public in general.

“This indecent display involved a child in a manner that violated his privacy and exposed him to undue scrutiny and potential harm. Such actions are unacceptable and undermine the trust that communities place in public events,” the ministry added.

The ministry further said that it is the responsibility of organizers, participants and parents to maintain ethical practices when involving children in any public setting.

The ministry and the NCFC plan to seek legal advice on how to proceed with this matter.

“We stand firm in our commitment to protect children from any form of exploitation, including this highly inappropriate exposure. And we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating safe and respectful environments for children,” the statement said.

The ministry and NCFC say they remain committed to encouraging adults, parents and communities to respect the rights of all children, especially during this time of national celebrations.
