Aotearoa’s Dream Queen Fazerdaze announces first LP in seven years with luscious new single ‘Cherry Pie’. – Backseat Mafia

Spring has definitely sprung here in the Southern Hemisphere, as it was announced today that the incredible Fazerdaze will be releasing her first LP in seven years – ‘Soft Power’ – on November 15th via Buttrfly/Virgin Music Group. To add to the delicious treat, Fazerdaze are celebrating the announcement with the release of the glorious single ‘Cherry Pie’.

Amelia Murray is the creative genius behind Fazerdaze, and here at Backseat Mafia we’ve been making no secret of our admiration for the multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer since the release of her incredible debut ‘Morningside’ in 2017 (see my review here ). A yearning, ethereal blend of indie and dream pop, Murray is without a doubt one of the most exciting exports to come out of the land of the long white cloud, alongside legendary bands such as The Chills, The Clean and The Bats.

‘Cherry Pie’ expands the many vibrant colours in Fazerdaze’s sonic palette – there’s an electronic thrum laced with a motoric beat that’s nuanced and layered with the kind of ethereal grace we last experienced on Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. And yet it’s Murray’s voice and melodies that carve out their own space: dreamy, almost ghostly, a laconic nonchalance that’s still feverish and bewitching. The signature chorus and melodies scrape the air like the great Southern Alps: bold, dramatic, breathtaking.

If this, as Murray says, is an example of a bedroom stadium recordthen stadiums will be comfortably filled with an endearing and enchanting intimacy. ‘Cherry Pie’ is out now and available to stream and download here.

Here you can pre-order ‘Soft Power’ with a special Flying Nun vinyl edition.
