Babyface Ray and Veeze sound smooth as ever on “Wavy Navy University”

Babyface Ray has a unique delivery. It’s intense and laid-back at the same time. He can convey urgency without sounding frustrated, and his best songs are the ones that explore that tension. Babyface Ray has been releasing quite a few singles in preparation for his upcoming album, The Kid That Did . His latest release, “Wavy Navy University,” is perhaps his best yet. The rapper finds a tempo and beat that perfectly complements his delivery. It helps that Veeze shows up and keeps the momentum going toward the end of the song. Babyface Ray wastes no time getting started on “Wavy Navy University.”

The first words he says are “let’s go,” and he means it. The rapper drops bars about everything under the sun, from Benzes and spaceships to wealth and different languages. It sounds great, even if it’s not very focused. “Yeah, mafia tie, we ain’t blowin’ up, bad b**ches flyin’ in,” raps Babyface Ray. “I was doin’ hundred percent, class in session, lil’ baby, sign in.” Veeze offers a slight variation on Ray’s flow, but he does it so seamlessly that it feels like a cohesive collaboration. If we’re being honest, the real star of “Wavy Navy University” is the beat. It feels aquatic and malleable, while still having enough groove to anchor Ray’s bars. A solid showcase all around.

They said the road could get high, but you know I don’t care
The type that talks to the devil
Go ahead and mess with those guys, pick a side
And it’s better not to end up in the middle
