Punjab police intensify crackdown on criminal gangs across the province

Under the leadership of Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively engaged in a province-wide mission to root out dangerous criminals and dismantle organized crime networks. The campaign to combat serious crimes continues relentlessly in all districts including Lahore.

A Punjab Police spokesperson revealed that in 2024 alone, the police successfully busted 4,646 gangs involved in serious criminal activities, leading to the arrest of 11,636 criminals. The operations resulted in the recovery of stolen properties worth Rs. 7.61 billion, including 1,303 vehicles, 19,431 motorcycles, 1,957 tolas of gold, 7,978 mobile phones and 3,241 cattle, all of which have been returned to their rightful owners.

The spokesperson further stated that over Rs. 4.79 billion in cash has been seized from criminals involved in various crimes. In Lahore specifically, 2,628 gangs were dismantled and 6,033 gang members arrested, with stolen goods worth Rs. 4.31 billion recovered.

IG Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, commended the police teams for their excellent efforts in tackling criminal gangs and directed them to intensify repression to eradicate organised crime completely. He stressed the need to bring to justice professional criminals involved in serious crimes such as robbery, murder and kidnapping. Dr Anwar also directed police teams to target hotspots, using effective planning and targeted operations to protect the lives and properties of citizens and combat crime across the province.
