JD Vance threatens tougher measures against Big Tech over role in border crisis

U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) traveled to San Diego, California, where he visited the U.S.-Mexico border.

The San Diego sector has been dealing with a surge in illegal immigration after border patrol moved from Texas to the west.

Big Tech has played a major role in the border crisis that emerged during the Biden-Harris administration.

Human traffickers and Mexican drug cartels use social media platforms and messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, to coordinate their activities.

Vance criticized Big Tech for “getting rich by actually facilitating some really, really bad things.”

The Republican vice presidential nominee warned that if Big Tech doesn’t crack down, the Justice Department under former President Donald Trump will go after them if he wins in November.

“If you are not willing to use the power of law enforcement to tell these social media companies to stop, to stop facilitating drug trafficking and sex trafficking, then you are not fit to be a leader of this country,” Vance said. The New York Post.

Big tech platforms are part of the problem at the southern border

Human smugglers use Facebook to promote their services along the border in Mexico.

Vance warned the big tech companies that they could address the problem internally or face conflict with a future Justice Department under Trump.

“We certainly believe that if the Justice Department applies appropriate pressure to these social media companies, they could behave much better, and if they don’t, there’s hell to pay,” Vance said. “It’s ridiculous that American companies are facilitating drug trafficking and sex trafficking.”

Cartels use social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat to recruit U.S. citizens to act as couriers to pick up illegal aliens at the border.

Americans are promised financial rewards if they help the cartel’s human trafficking.

Cochise County, Arizona, Sheriff Mark Dannels told CBS News that children as young as 12 are being lured into drug and human trafficking through social media.

“We have arrested over a hundred minors in this region in the last 18 months who were smuggling, all 13 and 12-year-olds, driving in grandma’s car, a friend’s car, or mom and dad’s car, all through social media,” Dannels said.

Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Oletsky called the social media apps “Uber for the cartels.”

According to the New York Times, the Biden-Harris administration’s border crisis has turned human trafficking into a $13 billion-a-year criminal enterprise.

Big Tech is playing an increasing role in ensuring that illegal immigrants and drug traffickers can cross the southern border.
