PETALING JAYA:

A company involved in several industries has denied exploiting child workers, hours after police raided 20 care homes linked to the firm.

According to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings, or GISB Holdings, the allegations that the company exploited children were malicious smears intended to portray the company in a negative light.

“We deny these allegations and emphasize that the company will not compromise on any activity that violates the law, especially the exploitation of children as workers.

We are prepared to offer our cooperation to the authorities to resolve this problem,

said in a statement.

Earlier, Police Inspector General (IGP) Razarudin Husain said 20 nursing homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan were raided this morning, with 402 children aged between one and 17 years old being rescued.

A total of 171 people were arrested during the operation carried out by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Smuggling Unit of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.

According to Razarudin, the 402 rescued children, 201 boys and 201 girls, are believed to have been victims of both physical and sexual abuse, as well as abandonment.

NST quoted the IGP as confirming that the houses were linked to GISB Holdings.

Meanwhile, Razarudin said police are still investigating allegations that the company was involved in child exploitation, particularly to collect donations, Utusan Malaysia reported.

The company officials are also expected to meet the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) over allegations that it was involved in the

of the banned Al-Arqam sect.

According to a 2022 report, GISB Holdings owns supermarkets, mini-markets, bakeries, 120 restaurants and other businesses in Malaysia, the Middle East, Europe and China.

Earlier, the company said it had shed its former image as a business arm of Al-Arqam and was now positioning itself as a multinational. – FMT
