Sony has finally lifted the curtain on its brand new gaming console, the PlayStation 5 Pro. The gaming console was recently leaked and a number of features have been made available to the public. Now that the reveal is official, let’s take a look at everything you need to know about Sony’s brand new gaming console.

The new PlayStation 5 Pro brings a lot of improvements in terms of gaming performance, thanks to more storage space and a better GPU that allows you to play games at higher resolutions and frame rates. And let’s not forget the advanced ray tracing, which improves refractions and reflections.

Let’s take a look at what Sony has brought to the world with the Sony PS5 Pro.

PlayStation 5 Pro – Everything you need to know

Now that the PlayStation 5 Pro has been officially announced, there are a few things you need to know about the console. Most importantly, the price and whether it makes sense to upgrade to the newer PlayStation 5 Pro.

PlayStation 5 Pro – Announcement and General Availability

Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro to the world via its tech presentation streamed on its official YouTube channel. The PS5 Pro will go on sale worldwide on November 7.

PlayStation 5 Pro – Technical Specifications

The PS5 Pro is planned as an upgrade over the original PS5 console that released in 2020. So yes, you will find improvements, primarily in the PS5 Pro’s GPU. Sony has stated that the GPU on the PS5 Pro is 67 percent better than the previous PS5 GPU.

  • Storage: 2TB internal SSD
  • RAM: 16 GB GDDR6 @ 560 GB/s
  • CPU: AMD 9-core Zen 2
  • GPU: AMD RDNA 2 with 60 compute units and 3840 streaming multiprocessors

PlayStation 5 Pro – AI upscaling and ray tracing

You can now get better and improved image clarity on the PS5 Pro with the help of AI upscaling, which adds even more detail to your games. Sony calls this technology PSSR, which stands for PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution.

With a GPU that is larger than the existing one in the PS5, the PS5 Pro will now have advanced Ray Tracing. You can now experience more dynamic reflections and refractions of light in supported games. Thanks to the upgraded GPU, which has 28% faster memory and an overall 45% increase in terms of gaming performance, gamers will experience smoother gameplay. In general, you will experience many games with a smooth 60 FPS.

PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced game titles

With the GPU boost for the PS5 Pro, several games will now come with an Enhanced tag that takes best advantage of the PS5 Pro’s hardware. Here is a list of some of the games that come with the Enhanced tag.

  • Alan Awake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • The soul of the demon
  • Dragon Dogma 2
  • Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • The Crew: Motorfest
  • The first descendant
  • The Last of Us Part II remastered

PlayStation 5 Pro: What’s in the box?

When you buy the PS5 Pro, you can only choose the digital version. There is no more disc version, this is what you get in the box.

  • Power cables
  • PS5 Pro console
  • DualSense Wireless Controller x1
  • HDMI cable
  • AC power cord
  • USB A to USB-C cable

You may have noticed that I didn’t mention the console stand. See, Sony has played a silly game that many popular smartphone brands do. Taking things out of the box only to make you buy them separately. Yes, you will have to buy the console stand for your PS5 Pro separately, as it no longer comes in the box.

PlayStation 5 Pro – Prices and pre-orders

If you’re interested in the PS5 Pro, you can visit the official PlayStation website . It’s only available in a few regions, such as:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • The Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom

If you live in a country not listed above, you can pre-order the PS5 Pro from your local retailers starting October 10, 2024.

Now let’s talk about the pricing for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony has pulled the plug on going the overpriced route it did with the PlayStation 3. If you’re planning on picking up the PlayStation 5 Pro, the console will now cost you $700 and yes, there is no more disc drive variant. If you’re buying PS5 games on disc, you’ll have to shell out a bit more money for a disc drive that’s compatible with the PS5 Pro. So expect the PS5 Pro price tag to climb towards the $800 mark.

If you still want a DualSense PS5 wireless controller, well, that’s not cheap either. Sony has upped the price tag for the controller to $80. So yeah, if you want a lot of stuff, you’re looking at a $1,000 price tag after taxes depending on region.

PlayStation 5 Pro – Who is this console for?

If you already have a PlayStation 5, simply avoid the PlayStation 5 Pro. It won’t make much of a difference and you’ll be better off with your PS5 for quite a few years until the PS6 eventually comes out.

However, if you’re still rocking the PS3 or even the PS4 Pro, you can get the PS5 Pro. However, I would recommend getting the console if there’s some sort of festival sale or discount. Because for the current price of $700, you can easily get a good Windows gaming laptop or even put aside some more cash and build yourself a custom gaming PC.

If you want the PS5 Pro, I’d recommend getting the console if it’s $600 or lower. It just doesn’t make sense to spend $700 on a gaming console that has a limited number of exclusive titles.

Closing thoughts

This is everything you need to know about Sony’s brand new PlayStation 5 Pro gaming console. While the graphics have been improved, the overall price tag, removal of the console stand, and elimination of a disc version are simply bullshit. But if you want to enjoy your games, go ahead and buy the PS5 Pro.

And the public reaction to the launch of this overpriced console? Everyone is laughing at what Sony decided to cook with the PS5 Pro. Will the PS5 Pro see a drop in interest or no interest at all? It seems like the console will put itself in a tough position to make it worthwhile to buy a $700+ gaming console. What are your thoughts on the new PS5 Pro? Share them below.
