Illegal sale of frozen properties; Jalil Afridi calls for action on drugs – The Frontier Post

FP Report

PESHAWAR/WASHINGTON DC: Mr. Jalil Afridi, Editor-in-Chief of The Frontier Post, which operates in both Pakistan and the United States, has filed several applications with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) requesting action under Sections 41 and 42 of the Control of Narcotics Substances Act.

Afridi, who has covered the White House, the US State Department and the Pentagon for almost a decade, has raised serious concerns about the illegal alienation of his family’s frozen properties in Lahore while he is living abroad. Afridi’s properties are currently frozen following the ANF’s conviction of Afridi’s late father, Mr. Rehmat Shah Afridi, in connection with drug-related cases.

The property, measuring 06 kanals and 13 marlas, is jointly owned by Jalil Afridi, his two brothers, Bilal Shah Afridi and Mahmood Ullah Afridi, along with their late father. Despite the property being frozen and under a prohibition on alienation, Afridi’s late father carried out several sales transactions in violation of the Freezing Order involving persons belonging to the Qabza/Land grabbing and money laundering Mafia.

These transactions not only violated the Freezing Order, but were also allegedly carried out without the knowledge or consent of the co-owners. Jalil Afridi alleges that these actions were fraudulent and intended to circumvent the legal restrictions imposed on the property by the ANF.

Afridi’s latest application included calls for immediate intervention by the ANF to address these illegal transactions and effectively enforce existing court orders. Despite previous applications dating back to 2019, there has been an inexplicable delay in taking action against those involved in these illegal disposals of properties. Afridi is seeking the intervention of the ANF to reverse the illegal disposals carried out in violation of ANF directives and prevent further unauthorized disposals and to uphold the integrity of the judicial proceedings relating to the frozen properties and uphold the rule of law by bringing the culprits to justice.

A seasoned journalist with extensive experience covering major US institutions, Afridi emphasizes the importance of accountability and the rule of law. His appeal to the ANF underscores the urgency of the matter, given the ongoing attempts to undermine the ANF’s mandate and usurp the rights of Afridi and his siblings through fraudulent means. The ANF’s response to these ongoing legal battles will be crucial to ensuring that rightful ownership and legal restrictions on property are respected, thereby protecting the interests of Afridi and his family.
