Even though the fearless leader of the Katy Cats/Orlando Blooms is the overly generous wife of Katy Perry, the aging millennial pop diva who is taking home the Video Vanguard honor tonight, the internet was just as excited about the prospect of Taylor Swift making an appearance at the VMAs. It makes sense, considering the professional boyfriend/friendship bracelet collector was nominated for a whopping TEN Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Video. Honestly, with such a major shoutout from the crazy kids at MTV, it would have been awkward if Taylor hadn’t shown up, so it’s a good thing she and those signature beachy bangs showed up. Granted, she’s had a busy week following her decision to support Kamala Harris amidst the ongoing scrutiny of her friendship with Brittany Mahomes.

Even though it is normally where the Tortured poet goes, Mr. Taylor Swift follows, Travis couldn’t make it due to his NFL schedule. Ugh how sad that bb has to work, but at least he and his superior bro Jason were enthusiastically cheering for TSwift to sweep tonight, giving her the chance to break Beyoncé’s record of 30 VMAs. When Taylor inevitably wins VOTY again, I’m sure it would have been really nice to have those big ol’ tight-end arms around her to keep her cool, considering what infamously happened to Kanye West the first time she won. The internet’s most powerful mafia, Swiftie Nation, hoped, wished, and prayed that Tayvis would grace the world with their presence on the VMAs red carpet. I personally thought Taylor wouldn’t let her adoring fans down, and was honestly more curious to see if she would show up with red lips or not. Travis and whatever weird hat he had planned couldn’t save it, but Taylor opted to wear a bumblebee-colored Vermont Flannel with a Project track treatment.

What awards did Taylor Swift win at the VMAS?

Taylor kicked off the night by winning Best Collaboration with Post Malone for “Fortnite.” In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged that the ceremony was taking place on the tragic anniversary of 9/11 and that the oh-so-polite “Austin” refuses to stop calling her “ma’am.” Taylor was nominated for ten awards at the 2024 VMAs, including: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Artistic Direction. Her biggest competition for the night was her buddy Postie, who is featured on the song “Fortnite,” which garnered the most of Taylor’s award nominations. Post Malone himself was nominated nine times, including for his song “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.
