Delhi Police to monitor activities of Haryana criminals ahead of elections

New Delhi: Delhi Police will monitor the activities of criminals from Haryana who are in jail or run their gangs from the national capital and share the data with the state where elections are being held, officials said on Thursday.

Elections for 90 Assembly seats in Haryana will be held on October 5. The results will be announced on October 8.

“Many criminals from Haryana are lodged in Delhi jail. Delhi Police will keep a strict watch on them and their activities,” a senior police official said.

The officer further said that the police will also maintain a record of their communications, which will be shared with the Haryana police so that elections in the state can proceed smoothly.

Police said that many prominent political leaders from the national capital will be holding meetings in Haryana. Therefore, the inputs from Delhi Police will be crucial for Haryana Police.

“We have already asked senior police officers of Delhi police districts close to Haryana or bordering the state to increase night patrols, make a list of bad actors in their police stations and whether they have links with criminal gangs,” the officer said.

“We are identifying all minor, major and connecting routes through which people can commute or enter Delhi. The deployment will be on such routes,” the officer said.

In view of the polls, the Haryana police has already tightened security measures at the border crossings. Flying squads and surveillance teams have been activated, the officer said.

Police also monitor the smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons into the state, authorities said.
