“Read more” (Mama Wa Boku Yori Kakkoi… Shikamo Sotchi No Mama Janai), also abbreviated to “Mamashika” by fans, is a seinen manga about Scout, the child of a mafia boss (Whitney) and a school teacher (Joanne).

After a series of mysterious circumstances lead to Joanne’s death, Scout heads to the coastal city of Himeji (Hyogo, Japan) to track down her mother’s last love—and Scout’s second mother until she abandoned them at age 3—Whitney. After decades apart, the two reunite with the intention of tracking down Joanne’s killer. Along the way, the two find themselves at odds with each other. Scout is frustrated with Whitney for leaving her and her mother behind in their homeland, and Whitney resents Scout’s decision to insert herself into the investigation into Joanne’s death. In their constant aggression, they come to confront some uncomfortable truths about each other and their trauma, and as the story unfolds, they learn things about Joanne that will forever change the way they see her.
