The Teacher Season 2 Ending Explained | Chilling But Not Surprising

Zac and Matt’s brotherhood was damaged by Zac’s advances on Jimmy’s son. This led to significant tension between the two. Matt did have feelings for Sienna, but she was in a relationship with someone else and was expecting a baby.

Had Matt, overcome with rage, done something unforgivable and irreversible?

Tim secretly travelled to the Mallory Centre, where Zac had been murdered, pretending to be at home and suffering from migraines. Dani also discovered dozens of deleted messages between the two on her husband’s phone.

Was Tim a predator with an unhealthy obsession with teenage boys, including Zac?

Both theories were plausible, but as the drama unfolded, their names were cleared and the real culprit was revealed. And no, it was not Headmaster Caulfield, which would have been quite a twist indeed.

It was Matt’s father Jimmya colleague of Dani’s with whom she had had an affair and Tim’s best friend, who was responsible for both deaths.

He had groomed Sienna, a vulnerable student living in a care home, and was also the father of her baby, a secret they had both tried to protect. But after Zac spotted the teacher and student together in Jimmy’s car a few days earlier, he told Sienna he would tell Dani the truth.

When Jimmy found out his abuse had been exposed, he instructed Sienna to keep him quiet, which resulted in a falling out between the two and ultimately Zac’s death after she hit him over the head with a brick.

Although Sienna officially murdered her friend, it was Jimmy’s manipulation of the teenager that created the environment for her to commit this heinous act, before subsequently meeting a similar fate.

A short time later, Sienna was found dead, having been strangled by Jimmy.

She had met him in the middle of the night, where they had argued about her pregnancy. While she wanted to keep the baby, Jimmy demanded that she have an abortion. When she refused, he silenced her permanently.

While it is a very disturbing revelation, it is also not entirely surprising.

Like the BBC drama The Jetty, which explored the abuse of underage girls in a northern lakeside town, season 2 of The Teacher also highlights how the sexual exploitation of young women so often takes place right under our noses and is carried out by those seemingly incompetent. So just, and anything but predatory.

But it’s not until tragedy strikes that the true nature of men like Jimmy is revealed. They conceal their dark intentions, hiding in plain sight, and the world continues to spin around them as their victims’ lives stumble and come to a halt – sometimes permanently, in the case of Sienna and Zac.

Jimmy’s behavior was monstrous, but you won’t find him lurking in the shadows, sharpening his horns. He’s the guy who sits next to you on the subway, the neighbor who offers to feed your cat while you’re on vacation, your daughter’s math teacher.

Monstrous, yes – but not in the way horror stories would have you believe.
